If the season openers are any indication, there's going to be a heck of a lot of big games in the NBA this season.

Four players dropped 40 points in their first games of the season, the first time that's ever happened in league history, according to OptaStats.

Only one member of that quartet lost, and that's the guy who led the way.

Luka Doncic put up 43 points for the Los Angeles Lakers, but they fell by 10 points to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night.

Three players got to 40 on Wednesday night.

Anthony Edwards led the way for that group with 41 points. He took the most shots of the quartet, knocking down 14-for-28 from the floor (along with all eight of his foul shots, the only 100% at the line of the four). The Minnesota Timberwolves pulled out a close win.

Tyrese Maxey put up 40 points, as well. He may have been a bit overshadowed by rookie VJ Edgecombe's 34 for the Philadelphia 76ers, but they needed every bit of the backcourt combo to beat the Celtics by a point.

And then of course there was Victor Wembanyama, who would've scored more if not for the San Antonio Spurs sitting him for the closing stages as they blew out the Mavericks. Wemby's 40 points came on 15-for-21 from the floor, the most efficient night of the bunch.

This group nearly had five. Houston's Alperen Sengun finished with 39 in the double-overtime first game of the season.

The Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets haven't played yet and open their season Thursday night, so if a Pacers or Nuggets player got to 40, it'd still count in this bunch, too.

Either way, it's a historic way to start the season.
