Before the Sacramento Kings reached their Sunday night clash against the Los Angeles Lakers, the veteran guard Russell Westbrook reached a new career milestone.
The future Hall of Famer surpassed Magic Johnson for No. 7 on the NBA’s all-time assists list.
Westbrook’s former teammate, and current LA Lakers star LeBron James, took to social media to send a straightforward message on Westbrook’s latest accomplishment.

“Russ is one of the all-time greats! Flowers given,” user CuffsTheLegend wrote in a post that generated over 800,00 views. James responded with two emojis; “facts” and “flowers.”
Westbrook’s run with the Lakers started in 2021-2022. He was with the two for less than two years. After his full-season, 78-game run in 2021-2022, Westbrook played in 52 games for the Lakers in 2022-2023. He averaged 15.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 7.5 assists.
He ended up on the Los Angeles Clippers to close out the year. Since then, Westbrook has spent a full season with the Clippers and the Denver Nuggets. This season, he’s with the Kings, continuing to build on his legacy.
Leading up to Sunday’s action against the Lakers, Westbrook started in 25 of 31 games. He is posting averages of 14.6 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.8 rebounds.
Westbrook landed the seventh spot on the all-time list with 10,149 assists. Next up on the list is Mark Jackson, who is retired with 10,334 assists. Steve Nash is right behind him with 10,335.
As for LeBron, he’s no.4. James entered Sunday’s game with 11,673 assists in his career.
