Lakers trade target Trey Murphy explodes in statement performance image

If Trey Murphy was having an audition game in front of the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, he surely put together an intriguing performance.

The New Orleans Pelicans wing checked in for nearly 40 minutes. During that time, he led the Pelicans in shots taken, attempting 26 field goals on the night.

Murphy went 14-26 from the field, knocking down six of his 17 shots from beyond the arc. He also added eight points from the charity stripe.

The veteran forward finished the game with a game-high 42 points. Despite his contributions, the Lakers took care of business against the Pelicans with a 111-103 win.

Are the Lakers Interested in Trey Murphy?

All signs are pointing to the Lakers targeting a two-way wing in the trade market this year. The Pelicans employ two intriguing candidates.

Murphy and his teammate, Herb Jones, are on the radar of the Lakers and other contenders, who are looking to boost the role players on their roster.

This season, the 25-year-old Murphy has appeared in 34 games. Seeing the court for 35 minutes per game, he shoots at a 49 percent clip from the field. Attempting 7.4 threes per game, Murphy has averaged 38 percent from three throughout the year. He is posting averages of 20.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.

Although the Pelicans are struggling this season, they have been hesitant to talk shop regarding any of their key or role players. Therefore, Jones and Murphy are off the table for now.

The price for Murphy surely went up after Tuesday’s action against the Lakers. It will be difficult for the Lakers to not be totally intrigued with the idea of scooping up the young veteran.

However, the Lakers are going to have to remain patient to see which direction the Pelicans ultimately take this year.
