Lakers trade debate gets strong statement from NBA legend Paul Pierce image

Dillon Brooks’ name ended up in the trade rumor mill this week as many wondered if he could be a potential fit for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce heard the talks and wanted to chime in with his thoughts. It’s safe to say he doesn’t like the idea of potentially pursuing Brooks from a Lakers perspective.

“If the Lakers were to make this move, if I’m ownership, I would need to reevaluate my front office because this is not a great fit,” Pierce said on the ‘No Fouls Given’ show.

“I love Dillon Brooks and what he brings, but he doesn’t fit in the scheme of things. They need to look at more athletic. … They need to get more athletic and younger.”

Pierce mentioned the veteran forward Rui Hachimura multiple times, suggesting he still likes the fit for him on the Lakers. Along with ex-Lakers sharpshooter Danny Green, Pierce agreed that the Lakers would simply need to stick with a sure 3-and-D player.

Offensively, Brooks has been a much different player since landing with the Phoenix Suns. This season, he’s averaging 21.2 points per game. While he’s averaging a high volume of attempts from deep, the veteran is still knocking down under 35 percent of his threes. He’s been a 35-percent shooter throughout his career.

For what it’s worth, there hasn’t been been a concrete link between Brooks and the Lakers. A simple suggestion from an NBA writer turned into a league-wide debate, which even had the Suns’ owner weighing in to say that Brooks isn’t leaving Arizona.

If the Lakers were ever thinking it, Pierce and even Green strongly advise them to go in a different direction to find a more logical fit.
