LeBron James and Luka Dončić make for a perfect superstar duo.
When the Los Angeles Lakers shockingly acquired Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks, it seemed as if James had his running mate until he decided to retire.
Now, it doesn’t seem that way.
James has yet to play this season, and Dončić is clearly the team's leader.
LeBron has never been one to take the backseat on a team, and although Dončić is the ideal player next to him, frustrations have continued to grow inside the Lakers' roster.
If things continue to stay the way they are, Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus believes this could be the last year the two share the same jersey.
“James is in the final year of his contract, has yet to play this season, and the Lakers are an early surprise in the Western Conference,” Pincus said Tuesday.
“General manager Rob Pelinka has said he hopes James retires with the Lakers, but the team could have offered him a longer deal this past summer. Instead, James opted into the final year of his contract, and it certainly feels like this is his last go with the Lakers.”
Although LeBron and Luka haven’t even played a full season together, people are already predicting that they will be separated after this season.
Although things may change once James returns to the court from his sciatica injury, which should be very soon.
Both stars seemed to mesh well in the short amount of time they played together, but this offseason, things took a turn.
James was part of contract disputes and seemed to want to be the leader, and although Luka didn’t make an outright statement against him, the hierarchy seems pretty clear within the Lakers organization.
