The Los Angeles Lakers made a notable roster move Monday night, opening a spot by waiving forward Christian Koloko.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Lakers cleared the vacancy in order to sign former Gonzaga star Drew Timme to a two-way contract.
Timme had been participating with The South Bay Lakers, the G League team affiliated with L.A., but his lack of a two-way contract prevented him from playing with the primary squad. This obstacle has now been removed, and the Lakers acted swiftly following Timme's recent showings.
Earlier in November, Timme was named G League Player of the Month after averaging 30 points, seven rebounds and 4.7 assists between Nov. 7–16. His production has remained consistent across the full sample: in six games this season, he is averaging 25.5 points, eight rebounds and four assists while showcasing the scoring touch and passing instincts that defined his collegiate career.
Since turning pro, the 25-year-old center has suited up for four different G League squads, including those affiliated with Milwaukee Bucks, Sacramento Kings, and Brooklyn Nets. Timme's sole NBA appearance thus far was with Brooklyn last season on a 10-day agreement. He posted averages of 12.1 points, 7.2 boards, and 2.2 assists over nine contests but did not land a guaranteed contract for the 2024–25 campaign.
Timme's two-way contract with The Lakers provides him the chance to participate in as many as 50 NBA games this season. He's slated to first be available for the active roster on Tuesday evening, when the Lakers compete against the Los Angeles Clippers.
