Despite being involved in a drama-filled offseason, Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James should be excited about the upcoming season.

According to the NBA Communications X/Twitter account, James is set to make NBA history when the 2025-26 campaign begins in October.

“Lakers forward LeBron James is scheduled to begin his 23rd NBA season on opening night,” NBA Communications wrote Tuesday. “He is set to pass Vince Carter for the most seasons played in league history.”

If James’ 23rd season is anything like his 22nd, the four-time NBA champion will enjoy ample success on the hardwood.

James isn’t flying the way he used to, but he’s still a masterful one-on-one shot creator, moving passer, and off-ball cutter in the big leagues.

The 21-time All-Star averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.4 rebounds per game, connecting on 51.3% of his field goals and 37.6% of his triples.

While Luka Doncic was the Lakers’ go-to contributor, James was far from a weak link under the bright lights.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers superstar notched 25.4 points, grabbed 9.0 rebounds, and dished out 5.6 assists per contest, shooting 48.9% from the field and 35.7% from three.

Assuming James doesn’t make a last-second retirement decision, he’ll do something that’s never been done before in the NBA.
