The Los Angeles Lakers fell to the Clippers 103-88 on Saturday night, ending the struggling Clippers' five-game losing streak.
After the game, Lakers star forward LeBron James was asked about former Clippers guard Chris Paul, who left the team earlier this month.
“It’s not for me to comment on, to be honest,” James said. “It’s none of my business.”
Paul abruptly announced his retirement after this season in November. The Clippers stated on Dec. 3 that they were parting ways with Paul. He was sent home from the team’s road trip after he reportedly clashed with ownership and head coach Ty Lue about the team’s issues.
Paul didn’t have much of a role in the Clippers’ rotation, averaging 2.9 points and 3.3 assists in 16 games. He started all 82 games for the San Antonio Spurs last season.
James and Paul have had a well-publicized friendship over the years, going back to their days on the AAU circuit. James was drafted in 2003, while Paul came out two years later in 2005. But James said he hasn’t spoken to Paul since the ordeal.
“Nah, I haven’t talked to him,” James said.
It remains to be seen if another team takes a chance on Paul. He remains in search of his first NBA Championship. A contending team could decide to bring him in and give him a chance to win his first ring.
If Paul doesn’t sign with a team before season’s end, it would be an unceremonious end to a fantastic career. Nicknamed the “Point God,” he’s a likely first-ballot Hall of Fame selection after his retirement.
