This past weekend, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints shared that the Los Angeles Lakers were close to completing a two-way contract with Drew Timme, a renowned college basketball player and G-League standout.
Siegel pointed out that for the transaction to occur, the team would have to let go of either a center standing 6-foot-11 who played for under two seasons or a guard who is 6-foot-4 and played for less than a single season.
The Lakers ultimately chose option No. 1 on Monday, according to Siegel.
“The Lakers are waiving Koloko and signing Timme,” Siegel stated on X/Twitter.
After a commendable three-year tenure at Arizona, Koloko was chosen by the Toronto Raptors at the 33rd selection in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Koloko's tenure with The Raptors spanned just two seasons; he then moved to the Lakers on a two-way contract for the 2024-25 season's commencement.
Although the native of Douala, Cameroon, spent a significant part of the year in the G-League with The South Bay Lakers, he acquired valuable experience with Los Angeles because of the franchise's frontcourt injury difficulties.
Last year, Koloko recorded 2.4 points and 2.5 rebounds over 37 games with the main team, achieving a 60.6% field goal percentage.
Koloko's chance to advance his development with The Lakers was missed because the seven-time NBA champions' decision to sign Timme left him without a spot in late November.
