The Lakers and Clippers squared off in a battle for Los Angeles on Saturday night, in a matchup that featured to of the best scorers to ever play.
For the Lakers, LeBron James entered the game with the all-time lead for most points with over 42,000. As for the Clippers, James Harden came into Saturday's matchup 10th on the all-time list, trailing Shaquille O'Neal by nearly 200 points for ninth.
After Luka Doncic went down with a leg contusion, it was all James. LeBron finished with a season-high 36 points on 15-for-28 shooting to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Apart from James, the Lakers had a difficult time scoring, finishing with 88 points for the night.
On the other side, Kawhi Leonard and James Harden combined for 53 points en route to a 103-88 victory over their in-city rivals.
After the game, Harden who finished with a double-double (21 points and 10 assists) recognized the dominance of LeBron's scoring record. When asked about being in the top-10 with James, Harden had this to say: “Don’t even say Bron in this conversation. That record, nobody is ever catching that."
Currently, Harden trails LeBron by about 14,000 points for the all-time lead, a record he won't come very close to catching.
Now, with Luka Doncic's injury timeline uncertain, James and Austin Reaves are expected to lead the team in scoring.
As for the rivalry of Los Angeles, the Lakers and Clippers will face off against one another next Jan. 22.
