TL;DR

  • Luka Dončić traded to Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and picks; outcome uncertain.
  • Dončić excels, leading Lakers to second seed; Mavericks struggle with Davis injured.
  • Anthony Davis nearing return for Lakers after calf strain, eager to play Dallas.
  • Davis's first game against Lakers since trade is a key motivation.

The trade made between the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks last season shook the sports world to its foundations.

Luka Dončić was reportedly traded to the Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and draft picks. This deal was presented, and in truth still is, as one whose ultimate outcome remains to be determined. However, initial impressions suggest it's not going well.

Dončić looks just spectacular, leading the NBA in PPG and leading LA to the second seed in the Western Conference.

In Dallas, GM Nico Harrison has been dismissed, and Anthony Davis has only played five games this season due to injury. Instead of a second seed in the West, they are now second-to-last in the conference.

The Mavericks could have a new player joining them when they head to LA this Friday to face Luka and the Lakers.

Cooper Flagg shares a bold eight-word statement for The Lakers and Luka Doncic before their highly anticipated game.

Anthony Davis is eager to get back on the court for The Lakers.

Since last season's trade, Anthony Davis hasn't competed against the Lakers. He missed both games played last year after the trade due to injury.

This season, Davis wants to change that.

Davis is close to returning to action after being sidelined for the past 14 games because of a calf strain. Given that injury, it's crucial to avoid making it worse, as that could result in a much more severe Achilles injury.

Regarding the potential return on Friday against the Lakers or Saturday versus the Clippers, Davis commented:

"That's a real question? You know what game I want to play."

Davis is eager to play, but ultimately, the team's medical and training personnel will decide what's most appropriate.

Although Davis's LA stint was marked by numerous positive recollections, there were accounts of discord toward the conclusion of his service. This, combined with his trade, represents precisely the kind of motivation every athlete seeks.

I'm sure he'll walk back onto the court ready to show he has much more left to prove.
