Chris Paul delivers bold retirement update after dramatic Clippers breakup image

An enormous rift between 12-time All-Star Chris Paul and the Los Angeles Clippers' coaching staff ruined a perfect ending to the legendary point guard's career.

Los Angeles decided that his approach to holding others on the team accountable amidst a horrid 6-16 start was ultimately a detrimental factor, causing him to part ways with the organization early Wednesday morning.

The 40-year-old now finds himself without a team in what was supposed to be his send-off campaign, a development that led many in the NBA sphere to question whether or not he'd hang up the sneakers and end his illustrious 21-year career.

In response to those concerns, a new report from ESPN's Marc J. Spears suggests that the league will have to try a bit harder if they want to get rid of the all-time great floor general.

"Does he want to retire, is he done?" Spears shared Thursday night.

"I was told absolutely not. He does want to play."

Though his first 16 appearances with the Clippers this season saw Paul average horrid figures of 2.9 points and 3.3 assists to go along with a 41.1% effective field goal percentage, the 11-time All-NBA Team selection believes that he can still land on another roster before the end of the season.

Confidence is the name of the game for Paul, and it surely will not be waning, even as he prepares to close his career.

Over the course of his 21 seasons in the association, the prolific two-way superstar has racked up lifetime box score marks of 16.8 points and 9.2 assists while also notching five assists titles, six steals titles and nine All-Defensive Team nods.
