Bradley Beal's contract mitigates impact of Clippers' bad injury news image

Bradley Beal's disappointing stretch of NBA seasons continues.

The sharpshooting guard has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 Los Angeles Clippers campaign.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Beal has a fracture in his hip and will undergo surgery, ending his season.

It's notable news for how its optics don't necessarily match its reality.

Beal is still a big name, and memories of his big trade to the Suns are still fresh in mind.

But the Clippers have invested far less into Beal.

He was bought out by the Suns in the offseason and latched on with the Clippers for a contract worth $11 million over two years.

In NBA terms, that's a very nothing kind of a deal. It's not that the Clippers want to lose any player for the season. But it's also not like they've been planning on paying Beal a fortune and now lose him.

Beal has been brutal so far this season.

Through six games, he's averaged 8.2 points and 1.7 assists per contest. His shooting has been 37.5% from the floor and 36.8% from 3-point range.

Beal, 32, doesn't seem likely to have improvements coming as his career moves into the mid-30. At this point, Beal is what he is, and that's not a particularly valuable player.

The Clippers will likely miss him less than his name value might suggest.
