The Indiana Pacers are in the midst of a lost season.
The best they can do is try to make sense of things as they go along.
Their latest effort to do that came Friday. They released James Wiseman from his 10-day contract, waived Garrison Matthews and signed Micah Potter.
Wiseman has just never panned out, and injuries have sapped the former top prospect of any of his potential.
Potter is a former Ohio State star who has suited up multiple places in the NBA.
He's a 6-foot-9, 27-year old forward originally from Mentor, Ohio who played at both Ohio State and Wisconsin in college.
Potter went undrafted.

He has played for both the Detroit Pistons and Utah Jazz at the NBA level, and he also had a stint under contract with the San Antonio Spurs but never got regular season action.
Potter actually started 10 games last season for the Jazz, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
He's a career 34.4% shooter from 3-point range.
The Pacers have a variety of big guys who have seen time this season but have also encountered frontcourt injuries.
Potter should get a chance at real minutes in this opportunity.
