The Indiana Pacers have made a series of roster moves on Friday.
The latest official transaction includes cutting ties with the former first-round center, James Wiseman. The Pacers announced that the release of Wiseman made space for the acquisition of Micah Potter.
Wiseman, a former top-two pick for the Golden State Warriors, joined the Pacers ahead of the 2024-2025 season. He signed a two-year deal with the team, planning to play as a backup with the NBA Finals hopefuls.
Unfortunately, Wiseman’s Pacers stint took an odd turn right away. Amid his first game with the team, Wiseman suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. At the trade deadline, the Pacers moved Wiseman’s contract to the Toronto Raptors. The Raptors would waive Wiseman, sending him back to free agency.
Wiseman re-signed with the Pacers over the summer and appeared in one game back in October. He checked in for 19 minutes as a starter against the Memphis Grizzlies. During that time, he scored four points while coming down with four rebounds.
The Pacers parted ways with Wiseman for a second time back in October. He was waived, making space for the veteran guard, Mac McClung. On December 20, the Pacers picked up Wiseman once again.
Since re-joining the Pacers, Wiseman appeared in three games for the Pacers. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.3 rebounds, while making 57 percent of his shots from the field.
At this point, Wiseman is on the hunt for his fourth team since entering the NBA in 2020. Meanwhile, the Pacers will replace him with Potter, a former undrafted big man out of Wisconsin.
Potter’s pro career started in the NBA G League with Sioux Falls Skyforce. He joined the Detroit Pistons to make three appearances in 2021-2022. In 2022, Potter signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz. He played for the Jazz for three seasons. Last year, he made 38 appearances, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds. He recently had a stint with the Austin Spurs of the G League.
The Pacers will return to the court on Friday night to face the Boston Celtics at home. It could be an opportunity for Potter to suit up for the first time since signing.
