It took Kevin Durant just one assist on Sunday night to reach a new milestone is in his career.
Not long after he dished out his first assist of the game between the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings, the NBA announced that Durant achieved a major accomplishment, as he racked up 5,000 assists.
By hitting the 5,000 mark, Durant became the third-fastest player in NBA history to reach over 30,000 points, 5,000 rebounds, and 5,000 assists.
The two players who did it faster are LeBron James (1,107 games) and Michael Jordan (960 games).

Durant and the Rockets are searching for their 18th win of the year on Sunday night. During the first half of action, the star forward checked in for 20 minutes. He shot 4-7 from the field, scoring 12 points. He also racked up four assists and seven rebounds before the intermission.
The Rockets had a comfortable double-digit lead over the Kings at the intermission.
At 37, Durant remains one of the most prominent players in the NBA. The star forward has appeared in 23 games leading up to Sunday’s action against the Kings.
Prior to the matchup, Durant has been making over 50 percent of his shots from the field and shooting 44 percent from three. He is posting averages of 25.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.
Just last season, Durant played in 62 games during his final stretch with the Phoenix Suns. He had an All-Star season, posting similar averages with 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.
If Durant keeps up with his current production, he’s likely to land in the All-Star conversation for the third season in a row, after a long streak of appearances was broken in 2022-2023.
The superstar forward hasn't shown any signs of slowing down, and could be on pace to earn even more historical feats as the 2025-2026 NBA season plays out.
