The Houston Rockets have made a roster move on Saturday night.

As the team prepares for its matchup against the Dallas Mavericks, the Rockets have added Tristen Newton. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Rockets are bringing him in on a two-way contract.

Newton’s most recent run was with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ organization. He was picked up by the Wolves one year ago, remaining on a two-way deal throughout the remainder of the 2024-2025 NBA season.

Back in the fall, the Wolves parted ways with Newton. Although they waived him following the preseason, Newton stuck with the organization’s G League affiliate.

Last season, Newton impressed in the G League by posting averages of 16.6 points, 6.6 assists, and 6.5 rebounds, while shooting 40 percent from the field.

In his first five games of the G League regular season this year, Newton shot 54 percent from the field, producing 28.6 points per game and averaging 5.4 rebounds and 7.0 assists.

Prior to his run with the Timberwolves, Newton had a successful college career at East Carolina and UConn. During his two-year run at UConn, he was a two-time NCAA Champion.

In 2024, Newton entered the NBA as the 49th overall pick to the Indiana Pacers. Last season, he appeared in eight NBA games, between the Pacers and the Timberwolves. He averaged just two minutes on the court.

The Rockets are set to take the court on Saturday night for an 8:30 PM ET matchup. They will face the Mavericks for the third time this year.
