The Golden State Warriors and Kevon Looney finally parted ways after 10 successful seasons.

Looney wasn’t a stat stuffer with the Dubs, but his commitment to making high-energy plays on both ends helped him win three titles in the Bay.

On Tuesday, the 6-foot-9 big man signed with the New Orleans Pelicans as a free agent, leaving Golden State with limited frontcourt options.

According to the Warriors PR X/Twitter account, the organization signed Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum’s former 6-foot-10 teammate, Marques Bolden, to their summer league roster, possibly solving their big man issue.

Bolden and Tatum competed alongside each other at Duke during the 2016-17 college basketball season.

While Tatum endured an impressive campaign with the Blue Devils, averaging 16.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game before heading to the big leagues, Bolden struggled in Year 1.

The DeSoto, Texas native contributed only 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per contest. Bolden played two additional uneventful campaigns with Duke before finally leaving for the NBA.

In 18 total NBA games with four different franchises (Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Charlotte Hornets), Bolden has averaged 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds nightly from 2019 to 2024.

Realistically, it’s unlikely that the 27-year-old will offer any assistance to the Warriors in 2025-26.

Still, with an inspiring performance in the Summer League, Bolden could turn heads and be perceived as a satisfactory frontcourt reserve moving forward.
