The Golden State Warriors look set to add some length to their roster.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Warriors are "nearing a deal to sign" Malevy Leons. It'll be a two-way contract.
Leons is a 6-foot-9 forward originally from the Netherlands who has appeared in six NBA games for the Oklahoma City Thunder while also spending time with OKC's G League affiliate.
He was raised in the Netherlands and made his debut in the Dutch Basketball League in 2017-18.
In 2020, Leons came stateside and played at Mineral Area College in Missouri, where he was named the Junior College Player of the Year by the NABC.
He went from there to Bradley, where he was back-to-back MVC Defensive Player of the Year. In his final college season, Leons averaged 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.5 blocks and 1.3 assists per game.
Leons went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft and joined Oklahoma City for Summer League.
He bounced up and down with OKC during the 2024-25 season.
Leons was waived by the Thunder before this season got underway.
Now, he gets his next shot with the Warriors.
Leons has a 7-foot-1 wingspan, which is a big part of his defensive ability. The Warriors won't be counting on any kind of scoring from Leons, but if he gets NBA action, it'll be to make an impact on the defensive end, which he's proven capable of doing at every level before this.
