The Golden State Warriors have finally found their ideal Kevon Looney replacement.
The Dubs lost the three-time NBA champion center to the New Orleans Pelicans in free agency, but recovered by signing a former Boston Celtics NBA champion center on Sunday.
“BREAKING: Free agent Al Horford has committed to a multi-year deal with the Golden State Warriors,” ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Sunday. “After seven of the past nine years in Boston and winning the 2024 title, Horford will enter his 19th NBA season as the Warriors' starting center.”
Diehard NBA fans should applaud Horford's longevity. While the 2007 first-round pick isn’t performing at a superstar level like fellow aging NBA contributor LeBron James, he’s still an impactful frontcourt asset at age 39.
Horford, an effective pick-and-pop weapon who can score in the low post and compete defensively, averaged 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds with the Celtics last season, shooting 42.3% from the field and 36.3% from downtown.
The Warriors desperately needed to find a talented center capable of occupying their starting center role before the start of the 2025-26 season, and it’s safe to say they succeeded in doing so.

Hopefully, Horford’s championship pedigree, ability to operate in a team setting, and versatility shine bright in the Bay in Year 19.
