While there’s no question that a trade is necessary for the Golden State Warriors to salvage their lackluster season, there’s an in-house move the organization could make in the meantime.
In Blue Man Hoop’s Jack Simone’s opinion, the Warriors could cut ties with a 6-foot-9 and sign a 29-year-old fan-favorite guard who’s played well in Stephen Curry’s absence (right quad contusion)
“Warriors could waive Trayce Jackson-Davis to sign Pat Spencer,” Simone wrote Sunday.
“Spencer has been on the rise for Golden State in recent games, slowly but surely becoming a more regular member of (Steve) Kerr’s rotation on a night-to-night basis.”
“Jackson-Davis has only appeared in 13 games for the Warriors this year, playing just 11.7 minutes per contest. He is only averaging 4.1 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 51.3% from the floor.”
“Considering the Warriors have Al Horford and Quinten Post to hold down the center position, as well as the small-ball Draymond Green minutes, waiving Jackson-Davis in order to sign Spencer makes sense.”
Spencer is a legitimate NBA player, whether skeptical individuals like it or not.
Although lacrosse was the Northwestern product’s first passion, his ability to play fearlessly and under control regardless of the opponent has allowed him to make a positive impact in the NBA in his late 20s.
Curry’s absence has enabled Spencer to receive extended minutes in Kerr’s rotation, and the 6-foot-2 backcourt contributor hasn’t disappointed.
Spencer has scored in double figures on four consecutive occasions, including 19 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers in an unexpected 99-94 road victory.
Moving on from Jackson-Davis and signing Spencer, who’s currently on a two-way contract, to a standard NBA deal could pay dividends for the Dubs down the line.
