Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler have solidified themselves as the Golden State Warriors' first and second option.
What the team really needs now is a third option.
Brandin Podziemski, Moses Moody, and Jonathan Kuminga have not been efficient enough for the Warriors to rely on them come playoff time, and their roster certainly isn’t getting any younger.
Acquiring a third scorer shouldn’t be difficult, and Peter O’Keefe of Blue Man Hoop points out one candidate that would make a lot of sense.
“Even in a disastrous situation in Sacramento this season, (DeMar) DeRozan is posting 18.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists on exactly 50% shooting from the floor and a career-high 39.4% from 3-point range,” O’Keefe said Wednesday.
“Fifth-year lottery picks Kuminga and Moses Moody have shown flashes of significant scoring output in multiple games this season, but they've also had quiet performances that suggests Golden State needs a more proven option.”
DeMar DeRozan fits right in with the Warriors, both in terms of his play style and his age.
Right now, he is rotting away with the Sacramento Kings, and a player of his caliber deserves more than that.
With the Warriors looking to buy on some players who may be on teams that aren’t competitive, DeRozan is the perfect option.
He would add another layer as a scoring threat, which would take attention away from Curry, something they can always benefit from.
DeRozan has also massively improved as a catch-and-shoot player, shooting 50% from three on catch-and-shoot attempts this season.
He has also transformed his game to become a point forward with the Chicago Bulls, something he would reactivate when Curry is on the bench.
The Kings could benefit from acquiring Kuminga if they decide to fully blow it up, as they are reported to do
Golden State may be inclined to go all in at the deadline, and DeRozan would be a great fit.
