The Golden State Warriors were forced to make a roster cut on Monday to sign ex-Oklahoma City Thunder forward Malevy Leons.

One hour and 49 minutes after the Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported that the Warriors were waiving a 6-foot-8 forward they traded for during the offseason, the organization made it official with a news release.

“In a related move, the Warriors waived forward Alex Toohey,” the Dubs stated. “Toohey, originally selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 52nd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, was acquired by Golden State as part of the league’s first-ever seven-team trade on July 6, 2025.”

“The forward appeared in two games with the Santa Cruz Warriors this season, averaging 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 19.6 minutes per game. He did not appear in a game with Golden State.”

After landing with the Warriors via a historic seven-team deal centered around Houston Rockets superstar Kevin Durant, Toohey spent six Summer League games with the seven-time champions (five in the NBA 2k26 Summer League and one in the California Classic).

Toohey, who had perimeter shooting concerns entering the 2025 NBA Draft, struggled mightily with Golden State in both events, shooting below 30% from the field and from three.

Unbeknownst to Toohey, he wouldn’t have the luxury of turning things around in the Bay, as his unfortunate left knee injury made it a no-brainer for the Dubs to cut ties with him and sign Leons.

Considering the 21-year-old Australian forward is just getting started in the NBA, though, his journey is far from finished.
