Acquiring Anthony Davis would do wonders for the Golden State Warriors’ frontcourt.
With 39-year-old Al Horford showing no signs of replicating the success he achieved with the Boston Celtics, and second-year big man Quentin Post serviceable at best, the Dubs should target Davis on the trade market.
However, the Dubs received bad news on a potential trade for the 6-foot-10 former Los Angeles Lakers superstar on Saturday.
“There is zero truth to the Warriors-Anthony Davis rumor,” ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported on X/Twitter. “Golden State has NOT contacted Dallas about Davis, nor do they intend to this season.”
Why Siegel’s report doesn’t indicate that the Dubs won’t reach out to the Mavericks on Davis’ behalf in the foreseeable future, it likely shuts down on a midseason blockbuster deal this year.
Davis’ health concerns likely contributed to Golden State’s refusal to pursue him this season, as the 32-year-old NBA champion can’t be relied upon to stay healthy during pivotal stretches.
Still, given that Davis is far more skilled and versatile than the Warriors' current frontcourt contributors, the Warriors should reconsider their stance on the Kentucky product.
Davis is averaging 19.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game with the Mavericks this season, shooting 52.3% from the field in 10 outings.
If the Dubs want to fix their glaring frontcourt issue, they shouldn’t be opposed to including Davis in their trade plans.
