Seth Curry wasn’t the only Golden State Warriors preseason contributor to receive unfortunate news before opening night.
On Saturday afternoon, a 24-year-old NCAA champion guard discovered he didn’t make the franchise’s final roster.
“The Golden State Warriors have waived guards LJ Cryer and Seth Curry,” the Dubs stated in their most recent news release.
“Cryer appeared in five preseason games with Golden State, averaging 5.0 points, 1.8 assists, and 1.6 rebounds in 9.6 minutes per game. Unselected in the 2025 NBA Draft out of the University of Houston, Cryer originally signed with the Warriors on Sep. 29.”
It was impossible to disregard Cryer’s high-level shot-making coming out of college. While the New Orleans, Louisiana native wasn’t a go-to scorer as a freshman, he took a massive leap in that department as a sophomore and never looked back.
Cryer, who won a championship with Baylor in 2021, averaged 13.5 points per game on 42.7% field goal shooting and 41.3% long-range shooting for his collegiate career, helping him catch the Warriors’ attention as an undrafted free agent.
Cryer inked a training camp deal with the Dubs after the NBA 2K26 Summer League and performed relatively well off the bench.
The 6-foot guard played an integral role in the organization's miraculous comeback win over the Portland Trail Blazers, recording 14 points while shooting 80% from the field and 100% from three.
However, Golden State deemed that Cryer was undeserving of an opening night roster spot, forcing him to spend the 2025-26 season elsewhere.
