The Golden State Warriors continue to make minuscule, yet intriguing roster moves as the 2025-26 season progresses.
Last week, the franchise cut ties with forward Jackson Rowe and signed G-League star guard LJ Cryer to a two-way deal.
On Monday, Golden State cut ties with a 21-year-old Australian forward to make room for a 6-foot-9 Oklahoma City Thunder forward.
“Golden State is waiving Alex Toohey,” The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer reported Monday.
With the Dubs signing Malevy Leons, the organization had no choice but to remove a contributor from its roster to make the move possible.
Unfortunately for Toohey, he wound up being the odd man out in the Bay after getting to the Dubs this past summer via a massive seven-team trade.
Toohey, who elected to skip college basketball and compete in the NBL in 2021, hasn’t gotten off to a great start to his NBA career.
The 2025 second-round pick didn’t get an opportunity to compete with the Warriors this season and was only active for one G-League contest (he recorded seven points, three rebounds, and one assist).
To make matters worse, ESPN’s Anthony Slater recently reported that Toohey will undergo season-ending knee surgery, which led to the Dubs swapping him for Leons in early December.
Hopefully, the young pro bounces back from his recent setback and finds his niche in the big leagues sooner rather than later.
