Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were brothers, the "Splash Brothers."

They didn't stay in the same uniform forever, though. The Golden State Warriors parted ways with Thompson, sending him to play the closing stages of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks.

It hasn't been a perfect fit for Thompson in Dallas. His game has fallen off, and he doesn't have his sharpshooting companion by his side.

Curry has noticed the absence, too, of course. The duo was together for such a long time, taking on all comers, winning championships, setting records.

He told ESPN in a new feature story that whenever he turns on the Mavs, his eyes naturally follow Thompson around the court.

And then, he shared a quote that will make Warriors fans feel all types of ways.

"I wish he was still here."

It's not obvious what this version of Thompson would look like on this current Warriors team. Would his decline have felt as steep? Or, in a system and place he was always comfortable in, would he have maintained more of his standard?

Golden State is a team full of veterans, anyway, trying to make one last run with Curry while teamed with Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and even Al Horford.

In that regard, Thompson would fit right in.

Some things just aren't meant to be, though. Even if it had seemed like Thompson would be a lifelong Warriors teammate of Curry, it hasn't worked out that way. And Steph misses Klay.
