The Golden State Warriors have had a rocky start to the season and are looking to improve their roster ahead of the trade deadline.
Golden State's had a glaring hole at the center position all season. Its center rotation of Al Horford and Quinten Post has struggled to hold up against the league’s top big men. Head coach Steve Kerr has been forced to play smaller lineups as a result.
The Warriors’ front office is looking to address the issue ahead of February’s trade deadline, according to NBA Insider Chris Haynes.
“They’re looking for size and athleticism,” Haynes said. “You look at the Warriors, rebounding and blocked shots, they’re in the bottom half of the league. Points in the paint, they’re dead last. They’re looking for an athletic center.”
Haynes said three veterans have emerged as trade targets for the Warriors. He mentioned Daniel Gafford (Dallas Mavericks), Nic Claxton (Brooklyn Nets) and Robert Williams (Portland Trail Blazers) as names to watch for Golden State.
“Those are three names that are on the Golden State Warriors’ list of targets.”
Golden State (13-15) has lost three straight games and is 9th in the Western Conference. The Warriors are five games behind the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are the six seed. As the playoff race in the West heats up, the Warriors could look to make a move soon.
“I was told that they are really serious,” Haynes said. “They’re trying to do everything they can to try to get the team back to being of the caliber of a championship contenting-type.”
