With the Feb. 5 trade deadline quickly approaching, hypothetical trade proposals will receive ample attention in the NBA world.

While some are more realistic than others, it’s always a fun exercise to examine every trade idea floated by NBA analysts/writers.

A recent blockbuster five-team trade concept involving Anthony Davis will unquestionably raise eyebrows, as it would land the Golden State Warriors a four-time NBA champion ex-Splash brother.

“The (Dallas) Mavericks are very open to the idea of trading Davis,” ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel wrote Tuesday. “The (Atlanta) Hawks appear ready to move on from Young and have the assets, like (Zaccharie) Risacher, to put together an intriguing offer for Davis.”

“So, will a trade happen? Not only could a Davis-Hawks trade happen, but we could wind up seeing this expand to a multi-team blockbuster.”

“While this is strictly a hypothetical trade scenario with no intel suggesting these five teams are coming together to make such a deal, here is a five-team trade involving the Hawks, Mavericks, (Sacramento) Kings, Warriors, and (Brooklyn) Nets that starts with Davis heading to Atlanta and also includes the likes of Trae Young, Zach LaVine, Domantas Sabonis, Klay Thompson, Jonathan Kuminga, and others.”

In Siegel’s trade proposal, the Hawks would receive Davis, LaVine, and D’Angelo Russell, the Mavericks would receive Sabonis, Risacher, Luke Kennard, and three future first-round picks, the Kings would receive Young, Kuminga, and Kristaps Porzingis, the Warriors would receive Nic Claxton, Thompson, Keon Ellis, and a future second-round pick, and the Nets would receive Moses Moody, Buddy Hield, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and two future first-round picks.

While it’s true that Thompson is no longer regarded as a superstar NBA wing, Stephen Curry has stated he would love for the Warriors to reunite him with the 35-year-old sharpshooter.

“If that time comes and that conversation is had, of course I'm calling him and saying, 'We want you back,” Curry told ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Tim MacMahon on Dec. 18.

“And hopefully that would be a welcome message to him. But as we stand right now, that does seem like a far-distant reality. But so did him leaving."

Thompson is shooting a career-low 35.7% from beyond the arc and averaging a career-low 11.1 points per game with the Mavericks this season.

That said, the Washington State product’s shortcomings with Dallas could hint at the fact that he must return to his original NBA home to play his best basketball.

Thompson spent 13 seasons with the Dubs and played high-level complementary basketball alongside Curry, helping the Dubs win four titles.

If it’s meant to be, the Warriors will identify a way to land Thompson before the trade deadline.
