The Denver Nuggets' Wednesday night win came with a bonus that put them in the same conversation with the greatest team ever. In the 135-120 victory over the Indiana Pacers, Jamal Murray scored 52 points, the second most in a game in his career.
With that impressive scoring mark, the Nuggets join Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors as the last team to have three players score 50+ points in the same season. Murray joins Aaron Gordon and Nikola Jokić for the Nuggets, cementing them in history.
So far this season, Murray has made a case for his first All-Star appearance. As the co-star to one of the greatest players ever, he is averaging a career high 24.7 points per game, a career high 6.6 assists per game, all while shooting 50.3% from the field, another career high.
What is most shocking about this accomplishment is Gordon meeting the fifty-point marker. Prior to his 50-point game earlier this season against the Golden State Warriors, he had only reached the 40-point marker twice in his career, and both were earlier in his career with the Orlando Magic.
The Warriors trio accomplished this in the 2018-2019 season, Durant’s last year with the team. Durant notched 50+ points twice that season, while Curry and Klay only did it once.
Considering the Nuggets are still early into the season, they could make history and have a fourth player score fifty. Although they don’t have a prime candidate to do so, there is still plenty of time for them to make history.
