While Golden State Warriors fans may not want to admit it, Kevin Durant’s generational shot-making in high-pressure situations hasn’t disappeared since he departed from the franchise in 2019.
If anything, Durant has taken his game to another level, which is music to the contending Houston Rockets’ ears.
On Monday, the former Warriors star forward unsurprisingly made basketball history that’s never been done before in the NBA.
“Kevin Durant now has the most go-ahead threes in the final five seconds of a game in recorded history,” Real App stated on X/Twitter.
Durant’s heroics were needed against the Phoenix Suns on Monday night.
The Rockets entered the fourth quarter with a minuscule three-point deficit, and with the game knotted at 97 with less than 10 seconds remaining, there was no better time for the two-time NBA champion to convert a game-sealing bucket.
In typical Durant fashion, the 37-year-old phenomenon took two calculated dribbles to his right before rising and drilling a dagger three-point jumper.
Durant finished the contest with 25.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game in his first season with the Rockets, shooting 52.0% from the field and 40.4% from three.
Although the 22-11 Rockets may suffer moving forward without a true point guard, Durant’s stellar play will always help the organization remain in the mix in the Western Conference.
