The Denver Nuggets can offer Nikola Jokic a massive contract extension this offseason, and they plan to do just that.

The ball will sit in Jokic's court as to whether he plans to sign it or not.

Jokic is eligible for a three-year, $212.2 million extension.

ESPN's Bobby Marks breaks it down further:

"Any time a generational player like Jokic is eligible to sign a new contract, it's a priority. Denver and Jokic are allowed to agree upon a three-year, $212.2 million extension the day after the Finals conclude. His $65.5 million salary in the first year replaces the player option in 2027-28 and puts Jokic in Denver through the 2029-30 season. Jokic finished in the top three in points, rebounds and assists per game this season. He is the first player to rank in the top three in all those categories since rebounds were first tracked in 1950-51, according to ESPN Research."

Nuggets owner Josh Kroenke told reporters on Tuesday, “We’re definitely going to offer it. I’m not sure if he’s going to accept it or not.”

If Jokic chose not to accept the deal, it'd continue a weird couple of months. The Nuggets fired Michael Malone right before the playoffs, and Malone was known to be liked by Jokic.

Jokic also had maybe his best season of his career, but he lost out on the MVP to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The NBA Finals are over, so the clock is ticking on Jokic's extension decision. Clearly, Denver needs to do everything it can to keep its generational superstar.
