It didn’t take long for Nico Harrison to update his social media biography to reflect his employment status after being fired by the Dallas Mavericks.
Mere hours after it was announced that the Mavs were parting ways with Harrison, he updated his bio section on Instagram to read “unemployed.”

Harrison made what is widely considered to be one of the worst trades in NBA history when he traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season. At the time, many claimed that it would – and should – cost him his job, and they turned out to be right. Morale around the Mavs has been at an all-time low since the trade, and the team started the current campaign with a 3-8 record.
Last week, Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki said that he felt bad for Mavs fans. At that point, the writing seemed to be on the wall regarding Harrison’s future with the franchise.
“I feel bad for my Mavs fans,” Nowitzki said. “This has been a disastrous start. Obviously, there’s a hole at the point guard and playmaking position. We knew that that hole wasn’t filled this summer. There’s a hole at shot-creating, there’s a hole at shot-making. … It’s been just a disastrous start.”
Based on his social media update, Harrison appears to be taking the firing in stride, although he might have to leave the “unemployed” part up on his profile for a while. It’s tough to imagine another organization giving him an opportunity to steer the ship anytime soon. In fact, there’s a chance he never gets another GM job in the league. Having the title of being the guy who traded prime Luka Doncic will likely prove to be a difficult reputation to overcome.
