The Dallas Mavericks have suffered one of the worst beginnings of a season in 2025-26, going 3-8 and in second-to-last place in the Western Conference. They were built to be a win-now team by GM Nico Harrison, but it seems it backfired due to numerous injuries and lack of stars at certain positions, and Harrison will face the music.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, Harrison will be fired by Mavs owner Patrick Dumont in a meeting at 10 am Central time. His mismanagement of the team, plus the shocking trade of franchise star Luka Doncic, will forever stain his legacy in Dallas.

Doncic wasn’t the only star that Harrison traded, as he dealt Quentin Grimes to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he has become a core guard for the team. Ironically, the Mavs need a true ball-handling guard, which they had two of in Doncic and Grimes.
During his tenure as GM, the Mavericks compiled a record of 182-157 and made the playoffs three times, including a loss in the NBA Finals.
One good thing that happened under Harrison’s eye was landing the No. 1 pick and Cooper Flagg this past offseason. While he hasn’t proven his worth as the No. 1 pick, he still has amazing upside and is the future of Dallas.
The Mavericks now have to either look for a new GM or hire in-house to replace Harrison. Hopefully, whichever choice they make leads to a better future for the Dallas organization.
