Following their shocking trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024-25 season, the Dallas Mavericks are ready to move forward and compete for a title in 2025-26.
After landing the No. 1 overall pick and selecting Duke standout Cooper Flagg, the Mavericks appear ready to contend in a stacked Western Conference. With a loaded frontcourt featuring Flagg, Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively, P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford, the team has plenty of skilled defenders and scorers up front.
However, with Kyrie Irving sidelined to start the season due to a torn ACL, the Mavericks could use another scoring option in the backcourt alongside Klay Thompson. While Dallas signed D’Angelo Russell this offseason, the team has enough frontcourt depth to pursue another guard.

Coby White emerges as trade candidate for Mavericks
The Chicago Bulls recently signed Josh Giddey to a four-year, $100 million extension, a move that could open the door for trading other backcourt options, including Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu. Mat Issa of Forbes believes White could be an intriguing fit in Dallas.
“A team like the Dallas Mavericks — who has a surplus of defensive-first players and a shortage of offensive creators — would probably love to bring someone like White on board,” he wrote.
The Bulls are still in a rebuild and may be hesitant to offer White a lucrative contract after paying Giddey. With White currently slated to enter unrestricted free agency next offseason, it wouldn't be surprising to see him traded before the deadline.
The Mavericks have a win-now mindset and could use White's scoring punch off the bench when Irving returns. If Chicago decides to move on, the Mavericks could be a team to watch should White land on the trade block.
