Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki thinks that the organization waited too long to fire general manager Nico Harrison, as the Hall-of-Famer thinks that the move should have been made over the offseason.
"This move should have probably happened this summer honestly,” Nowitzki said during a segment on NBA on Prime. “I didn't want this negative energy and this black cloud over the Cooper Flagg era."
Nowitzki said that he knew Mavericks fans wouldn't simply move on from the Luka Doncic trade, which no one understood.
"This trade just made no sense," he said. "It made no sense to them and there was really no explanation for it either."
He said he thinks that Mavs fans feel like they were robbed of getting to watch Doncic's career continue to blossom.
"The fans feel like they got robbed of actually seeing the end, seeing this through, seeing Luka develop into, hopefully, a champion one day," he said. "It feels like they never got to see the end to it."
Now that the move was finally made to relieve Harrison of his duties, Nowitzki thinks it's time for all sides to move on and focus on the future.
"It's time to move on now. Focus on this team.... This definitely set the franchise back, but now it's about building it back up."
Nowitzki talked for over two minutes on the topic. It's clearly something that he has strong feelings about. You can see his full comments on the matter below:

Nowitzki was pretty spot on with everything that he said. The move to fire Harrison was probably overdue, but better late than never.
