This news comes less than a year since the shocking Luka Doncic trade, which left fans across the NBA questioning the rationale in the Mavs’ front office. Nico Harrison, the man held most responsible for the trade, was fired from his general manager position just a month ago, and it looks like the biggest piece from that deal is already being shopped around.
Klay Thompson, who came to Dallas before the whole Doncic ordeal, is also the topic of trade discussions, with teams knowing that he “prefers to be part of a contender.” Time will tell if the Mavericks stay in the play-in picture once trade season truly picks up.
Other names mentioned by Shams that the Mavericks are possibly looking to trade are center Daniel Gafford and guard D’Angelo Russell. With Cooper Flagg under their wings, Dallas might be tempted to blow up their current squad, get as many picks and assets as possible, and retool with Flagg as the centerpiece.
