The Dallas Mavericks are gearing up for another stretch without Anthony Davis.

Saturday’s action against the Chicago Bulls will mark the first game that Davis will miss since he went down with an injury against the Utah Jazz on January 8.

As the Mavericks took the court for their routine shootaround session on Saturday morning, Davis made his first appearance since suffering his setback.

The All-Star big man was seen wearing a sling, with his hand wrapped up, after he suffered a notable injury in his last time out.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Davis suffered ligament damage in his left hand. He still has to get a second opinion on the injury and its recovery process. Therefore, surgery has not been ruled out.

If Davis undergoes surgery, Charania reports he could “miss a number of months.”

On a positive note, Davis was in good spirits on Saturday, despite the unfortunate news he received on his setback. Since getting traded to the Mavericks from the Los Angeles Lakers last year, Davis has struggled to stay healthy and on the court.

During his first full season with the Mavs, Davis appeared in 20 games. Seeing the court for a little over 30 minutes per game, the veteran has posted 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game

Before his injury took place, Davis’ name was popping up in NBA trade rumors. As the Mavericks continued to struggle in a tough Western Conference, hitting the reset on Davis and beginning to build around Cooper Flagg would’ve been a logical move for Dallas.

However, the injury to Davis certainly makes it more difficult for the Mavs to move him this season. Right now, all of the focus will be on Davis’ recovery, as the Mavericks will wait and see how long he’ll be out of the mix.
