NBA fines Cavaliers $250,000 for Darius Garland reason image

The NBA appears to be making their attempt to crack down on load management after taking action on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In this case, it has to do with the Cavaliers' Darius Garland while he continues to recover from the offseason procedure he had on his toe.

Garland, 25, made his return in early November, but he hasn't gotten to full strength. This has led to Cleveland not letting the former All-Star play in every game, specifically games that take place on back-to-back days. The Cavaliers picked the wrong game for Garland to sit out, and now they have to pay for it.

NBA fines Cavaliers $250,000 for violating player participation policy

Senior NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Thursday, saying that the NBA has fined the Cleveland Cavaliers $250,000 "for violating player participation policy."

Cleveland didn't make Darius Garland available to play in a nationally televised game, but he proceeded to play in a game that was non-televised.

The team's pattern in sitting Garland due to injury management apparently didn't line up with the player participation policy, resulting in Cleveland getting fined the amount.

The set of games took place on Nov. 23 and Nov. 24. Garland played in the Cavaliers' 120-105 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 23, but then sat in the team's 110-99 loss to the Toronto Raptors the day after, according to NBA.com.

This is the second time the Cavs have been fined for sitting players this season. The first occasion occurred on Nov. 12, when Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley sat out of the team's 130-116 win over the Miami Heat. This resulted in a $100,000 fine.
