This season has not gone the way the Cleveland Cavaliers would have hoped, and the team’s fans have responded accordingly.
The Cavaliers latest loss saw them go scoreless in overtime as they fell 119-111 to the lowly Charlotte Hornets. The loss was the latest bump in the road for Cleveland, who have started the season just 15-12, and eighth in the Eastern Conference despite entering the season as a possible Finals favorite.
During their loss to the Hornets, the home fans could be heard loudly booing, and voicing their displeasure with the team’s performance. Star guard Donovan Mitchell, who scored just 17 points on 6-24 shooting in the loss, says he doesn’t blame the fans for reacting as such.
“We deserve it,” Mitchell said to Tom Withers of WKYC. “I was a fan once. I would boo us, too.”
“I had one of those nights on a night and situation when I'm not allowed to,” he added. “If I play better, we win that game. Put this one on me. I know my teammates won't say that.”
Mitchell and the Cavaliers will look to right the sinking ship as they head towards a pivotal point in the season. They’ll square up with the Chicago Bulls on Dec. 17 with a chance to get back on track.
