The Chicago Bulls are shorthanded to start the season.
They'll have to take on the Detroit Pistons on opening night without their starting point guard.
Coby White is out, news that only emerged earlier this week.

Why isn't Coby White playing?
Coby White is out to start the 2025-26 NBA season with an injury.
White will miss at least two weeks to begin the season, the Bulls announced on Monday. White is dealing with a calf strain.
It's definitely not what the Bulls want as they seek to get off to a fast start to the season.
White averaged a career-high 20.4 points per game last season. He also averaged 4.5 assists per contest and shot 37% from 3-point range.
Chicago would've certainly had White in its starting lineup every game this season, but they'll have to figure out an alternative in the early going.
Josh Giddey is already a for-sure starter, and with his offensive initiation capabilities, the Bulls wouldn't have to start a different point guard instead of White if they didn't want to.

But if they go with a true point guard replacement for White, it'd likely be Tre Jones, with Jevon Carter moving up a spot on the depth chart.
On the wing, the Bulls have Kevin Huerter in town now. Ayo Dosunmu is also still expected to be a part of the rotation, potentially behind the newly acquired Isaac Okoro, formerly of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Bulls don't have many questions in the frontcourt, where Nikola Vucevic and Matas Buzelis will get all the minutes they can handle, and Patrick Williams should mix in.
Right now, the Bulls just have to figure out what to do without White's potent offensive ability.
