Though the Chicago Bulls have had less to cheer for since their hot start to the 2025-26 campaign, a recent roster decision has the potential to inject some joy into the organization at the NBA and G-League level.
According to HoopsHype's Mike Scotto, the Bulls' decision to waive 6-foot-9 two-way forward Trentyn Flowers was followed up by the signing of ex-Memphis Grizzlies guard Yuki Kawamura on a two-way deal of his own.
"The Chicago Bulls are signing Yuki Kawamura to a two-way contract, league sources told HoopsHype," Scotto shared via X on Tuesday evening.
"Kawamura replaces Trentyn Flowers, who was just waived by Chicago."
Standing at 5-foot-7, the 24-year-old Japanese guard has taken the basketball world by storm on several occasions since making his NBA/G-League debut with the Grizzlies and their G-League affiliate Memphis Hustle in 2024.
As an undrafted signee with the Hustle, Kawamura made an instant impact with the team as a crisp passer and lethal three-point shooter. In 24 regular season appearances with the Hustle in 2024-25, the then-rookie would contribute an astonishing 12.4 points, 7.8 assists and 1.3 steals to pair with a blistering 41.0% three-point shooting clip.
Kawamura didn't receive much burn with the Grizzlies' NBA team in 2024-25, as he would touch the floor for just 4.2 minutes spanning 22 contests, averaging 1.6 points and 0.9 assists.
With Chicago's Windy City Bulls affiliate, Kawamura could look to earn another shot at an NBA call-up. If his previous experience with the Hustle has provided any indication as to how he'll fare, his ability to play much bigger than his stature should serve him well.
