On Wednesday, the Charlotte Hornets announced in a press release that they had waived forward Drew Peterson.

The 26-year-old won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2024, playing a career high 25 games the following season. This season, Peterson averaged less than a point per game in 10.7 minutes per night across six contests with the Hornets.

The University of Southern California product went undrafted in 2023, joining the Miami Heat for the Summer League. Peterson signed with Miami's Sioux Falls Skyforce after being waived.

Peterson signed a Two-Way contract with the Hornets in July.

While he didn't receive much of an opportunity at the NBA level, Peterson posted solid numbers in the G League with Charlotte's affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.

In nine games with the Swarm, Peterson averaged 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.

NBA Rumors' Luke Adams reports that Peterson will receive a prorated portion of his two-way salary because the Hornets severed ties with him before the salary guarantee date of January 7.
