Whatever the Charlotte Hornets have been doing for the last 20 or so years isn’t working. Since 2002, they’ve only made the playoffs three times and have never been out of the first round. Part of their problem is that they may be choosing the wrong stars to build around. There hasn't been Hornets news worth much excitement recently, but this Hornets trade idea could change everything.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report has proposed a Hornets trade idea that, although bold, could actually be exactly what the team needs.
The Hornets trade proposal looks like this:
Hornets receive: Jalen Suggs, Jett Howard, and the 16th pick in this year’s draft.
Orlando Magic receive: LaMelo Ball
Yes, trading a franchise star like LaMelo might seem crazy. However, you could argue that trying the same thing over and over again and it not working is even crazier.

That is what the Hornets have been doing since drafting LaMelo. They’ve given the keys to their organization to a player who simply isn’t a leader or a winner. LaMelo has only played more than 52 games once in his entire career, and hasn’t led the Hornets to the playoffs (in a weak Eastern Conference) even once.
It is time to change directions. This Hornets trade proposal works because not only does it rid the team of LaMelo Ball, but it brings them multiple intriguing young players and an extra pick in this year’s loaded 2025 NBA Draft class.
If the Hornets really want to change their franchise's fortune, they need to make a bold trade like this to completely rewrite the makeup of their team. The fans in Charlotte may not like it, but getting LaMelo off the Hornets roster is their best chance at starting to win some games.
