The Charlotte Hornets earned another huge win Monday, blowing out the Philadelphia 76ers at home to win their 19th game of the season.
With the victory, the Hornets have already reached their win total of last season (19-63 record) with 35 games remaining.
Brandon Miller was the star of the show, as he was one of eight Hornets to score in double-figures. He ended with a game-high 30 points to go along with eight rebounds on an incredible 9-for-11 shooting from the field including 6-for-8 from three-point range.
After a dominant third quarter where Charlotte outscored Philadelphia 40-15, the Hornets cruised to a 37-point victory, 130-93. In the win, Charlotte led by as much as 50 points.
This marks the second time that the Hornets led by 50 points this month, defeating the Utah Jazz by 55 earlier in January. Additionally, Charlotte became the first team to lead by 50 points twice in the same month since the Phoenix Suns did in 2009. The Suns finished that season ninth in the Western Conference with a 46-36 record.
The win also moved the Hornets within one game of the 11th place spot in the East, closing in on the Milwaukee Bucks.
With teams like the Bucks and Chicago Bulls rumored to be sellers at the deadline, Charlotte could see their path to the playoffs become easier.
That said, Charlotte may decide to be sellers as well, a move that is sensible, but could possibly halt their progress.
