The 2025-26 season continues to be a challenging one for the Brooklyn Nets.
The team currently boasts an 11-22 record. However, they remain in an interesting position, especially as we approach the NBA Trade deadline.
The Nets have recently gone 8-6 over their last 14 games, with Michael Porter Jr. Leading the charge. He continues to raise his trade value through his prolific scoring. So far this season Porter Jr is averaging 25.9 points on 49.5% shooting from the field.
While the Nets have picked up some notable wins, the team's focus remains clear: long-term roster building.
MPJ Trade Proposal
Sports Illustrated Nets writer Jad Katz has proposed a deal that would send Porter Jr to the Detroit Pistons.
"Naturally, being that the 27-year-old is on a rebuilding team, the floodgates for trade rumors have opened up. There are several suitors for Porter with the Feb. 5 deadline approaching, but one Eastern Conference contender definitely stands out above the rest," Jad Katz wrote.
He adds, "The Detroit Pistons have reportedly not yet called the Nets about Porter, but have still been tabbed as one that could acquire the forward. At 27-9, the defense has been spectacular, and they have their franchise player in Cade Cunningham."
"However, Detroit could use another offensive punch from the perimeter. Cunningham (26.7 PPG) and Jalen Duren (17.9) are the team's top scorers, but there's a significant dropoff after that. Porter could be the third scoring option to provide a cushion and championship experience."
A deal that would send Porter Jr to the Detroit Pistons could be mutually beneficial for both teams. The Pistons add another proven scorer with championship experience, while the Nets could gain valuable first-round draft picks to bolster their rebuild along with quality vets in Tobias Harris and Caris LeVert
The 27-year-old continues to increase his trade value around the league, making him one of the leagues most intruiging players on the market.
