Nets shock Celtics as Nic Claxton records first career triple-double image

TL;DR

  • Brooklyn Nets defeated Boston Celtics, snapping a nine-game losing streak.
  • Michael Porter Jr. scored a game-high 33 points, including 16 in the fourth quarter.
  • Nic Claxton recorded his first career triple-double with 18 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds.
  • This win marks Brooklyn's first in NBA Cup Group Play and their third away victory this season.

The Brooklyn Nets entered Friday’s NBA Cup matchup at TD Garden as heavy underdogs. With a 2-12 record and nine straight losses to the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn had little momentum on its side. But the Nets delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, defeating Boston and snapping their prolonged losing streak against the Celtics.

Brooklyn seized control in the second quarter, outscoring Boston 40-25. After that, the Nets never surrendered the lead the rest of the night. Michael Porter Jr. Powered the offense with a game-high 33 points on 13-for-21 shooting, including four made 3-pointers. Porter saved his best for the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points in a five-minute stretch to keep Boston’s comeback attempts at bay.

Center Nic Claxton also had a standout night, achieving the first triple-double of his career. The 26-year-old was instrumental for Brooklyn on both offense and defense, tallying 18 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds, in addition to a steal and a block. Claxton's ability to create plays was especially notable, as he repeatedly set up teammates for good shots while also being the team's defensive anchor in the paint.

Brooklyn secured its initial victory in NBA Cup Group Play following an 0-2 opening. The Nets currently hold third place in Group B with one game left. This win also extended a peculiar pattern: all three of Brooklyn's triumphs this season have occurred away from home.

The Nets aim to sustain their positive trajectory as they head to face the Toronto Raptors this Sunday. Following that game, they'll be back at Barclays Center for contests with the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
