A key Brooklyn Nets player had been in the midst of another prolific night — until health woes ended things early.

The 0-7 Nets' quest to notch their first win of the 2025-26 NBA season against the 1-6 Indiana Pacers on Wednesday just got a bit tougher.

Standout shooting guard Cam Thomas has been ruled out of the rest of the two teams' ongoing clash with a right hamstring strain, Brooklyn has announced.

A hot start for Thomas

Through his first seven games, the 24-year-old out of LSU has averaged a career-high 24.4 points on.408/.356/.875 shooting splits, along with 2.9 assists, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.6 steals a night. But it hasn't exactly helped his team win.

Seen as a bit of a ball-stopper with finite defensive upside, it's possible that Thomas' ultimate future is as a sixth man microwave scorer. Brooklyn seems to be cognizant of Thomas' limitations. The 6-foot-4 guard failed to come to terms with the Nets on a long-term deal in restricted free agency this summer, ultimately deciding to pick up his $6 million player option for 2025-26, after which he'll reach unrestricted free agency.

Since being drafted in 2021-22, Thomas has seen nothing but roster churn. Although he was on two playoff-bound Brooklyn teams during his first two seasons, those teams systematically ditched future Hall of Famers James Harden, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in three separate, franchise-altering deals.

Brooklyn has sifted through plenty of players in the intervening seasons, too. This year's Nets roster features an NBA-record five first-round draft picks. It's a bit unfair to assess this iteration Thomas without seeing him react to a bit more personnel stability.
