The Brooklyn Nets were expected to revitalize their team when they traded for Michael Porter Jr. This past offseason; instead, they’ve continued their tanking ways. However, with Porter off to a red-hot start, they could capitalize on something.
According to ClutchPoints’ Erik Slater, the Nets are willing and expected to listen to offers for Porter. This would solidify their tanking season and set them up for a full rebuild.
“Porter Jr. Is expected to draw interest on the trade market amid his red-hot start. The Nets are likely to gauge offers for the veteran, whom they acquired alongside an unprotected Nuggets 2032 first-round pick for Cam Johnson. Brooklyn operated this offseason with a tanking agenda in mind. However, Porter Jr.'s elite play has the rebuilding squad on the outside looking in regarding top-three lottery odds. Following a 0-7 start, the Nets are 7-11 over their last 18 games, dropping them to sixth in the draft lottery standings,” Slater wrote.
So far this season, Porter is averaging 25.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. He’s also shooting splits of 50/40/81, making him one of the best shooters around.

With that in mind, the Nets could get a haul for Porter. They already have a mountain of picks from the New York Knicks when they traded Mikal Bridges, plus all the other picks they have sprinkled in.
If the Nets can get another haul from Porter and play their cards right, they could have a rebuild similar to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s, which would be amazing. Hopefully they do, so they can finally have a contending team for the first time in a long-time.
