Everything Michael Porter Jr. Does from January until the February trade deadline will be under a microscope.

That’s what happens when the league starts sniffing around a potential trade for a notable player.

The Brooklyn Nets’ decision to rule out Porter for their Friday night matchup against the Washington Wizards created more speculation around Porter Jr. The team labeled Porter Jr.’s reason for absence as an illness. NBA fans aren’t buying it.

NBA Fans Get to Speculating

@crisbetts17: Michael Porter Jr. (Getting Traded) ruled out Friday.

@perkollating: SUREEEE ILLNESSS

@BIGSTAK: Keeping him healthy for trade deadline

@HeatNation: On the next flight out

On Thursday, Porter rang in 2026 by hearing his name in trade rumors. The recent report comes from ‘The Stein Line’, which suggested that several teams just might have an eye on Porter. The Golden State Warriors happen to be one of them.

Although the Nets picked up Porter from the Denver Nuggets over the offseason, it didn’t seem likely he would remain as a key player for the team for years to come. The Nets are still rebuilding, and Porter is a one-time champion who brings “win-now” value.

@dbuckzz_: Warriorssss

@ISODURANT: NOOOOOOO DONT GO TO GS

@NotNavilol: COME HOME

@TheBBallSage: (Warrior) ruled out until 1/15

This season, Porter Jr. Has appeared in 26 games for the Nets. Seeing the court for 33.7 minutes per game, the veteran forward is putting up 25.8 points per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field. From three, he is knocking down over 40 percent of his shots.

Along with his scoring, Porter Jr. Is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game and 3.3 assists per game.

In Brooklyn, the stakes are much lower than they were during his time with the Denver Nuggets. Since Porter has postseason experience, he could be a deadline target. He’ll be a name to keep an eye on in the coming weeks, as he’ll eventually get inserted back into the lineup.
